Shift scheduling that survives an overnight rota

Most scheduling tools break when shifts cross midnight or when employees need to swap a rota at short notice. Dawmly handles both from day one — build a template once, repeat it on the days you pick, and let overnight detection and employee-led swaps take care of the edge cases. Shift scheduling is included from the Starter plan at 100 EGP per employee per month. Payments processed in EGP via Paymob.

Build the template once, roster in minutes

A shift template stores a name, a start time and an end time, and a day-of-week repeat pattern — you pick which days the template should recur on and Dawmly applies it automatically. Each template can carry an optional colour so different shift types are visually distinct on the calendar, and a template can be scoped to a single department so it only appears for the right team. When you assign a shift to an employee you can use an existing template or create an ad hoc assignment for a specific date, with a start time, end time, optional note and status.

Overnight shifts, handled without a workaround

When a template's end time is earlier than its start time — say, 22:00 to 06:00 — Dawmly detects that automatically and marks the shift as overnight instead of treating it as an invalid or zero-length one, so the rota reads correctly across midnight. There is no need to split the shift across two calendar days or use a workaround. Worked hours come from the actual clock-in and clock-out timestamps on each attendance session, independently of the template.

Let the team sort their own swaps

An employee can raise a swap request directly: they name the colleague they want to swap with, optionally target one of that colleague's specific shifts, and attach a note explaining the request. The request stays in a pending state until the other employee responds. The response timestamp is recorded, so there is a clear audit trail of who agreed to what and when. Managers do not need to coordinate every swap manually.

Public holidays, paid or unpaid

Each tenant maintains its own public holiday calendar. A holiday entry stores a date, a name, and a paid or unpaid flag. Whether a public holiday counts as paid time off or an unpaid day depends on your company policy — you set the flag and Dawmly uses it throughout scheduling and payroll calculations.

Frequently asked questions

Which plan includes shift scheduling?

Shift scheduling is included from the Starter plan, at 100 EGP per employee per month. The Free plan covers clock-in, the Today dashboard and attendance history.

Can Dawmly handle overnight shifts that cross midnight?

Yes. When a shift template's end time is earlier than its start time, Dawmly recognises it as an overnight shift instead of treating it as an invalid or zero-length one, so the rota reads correctly across midnight. Worked hours come from the actual clock-in and clock-out timestamps on each attendance session.

Can employees swap shifts between themselves?

Yes. An employee can raise a swap request against a colleague, optionally targeting one of that colleague's specific shifts, and attach a note. The request stays pending until it is answered, and the response is timestamped.
