Lateness deduction calculator
Work out how much to deduct from an employee's salary for lateness this month: minutes docked at the hourly rate, a part-day deduction once lateness repeats, and the legal cap of five days' wage per month under Article 143 of Egypt's Labor Law No. 14 of 2025.
Calculate the deduction
Your company's late policy
Doing this for the whole team every month?
Dawmly records each employee's late minutes automatically from their phone punch and applies the same policy (multiplier, warning and part-day deduction) on the payslip. Free for up to 3 employees.
Start freeHow a lateness deduction is calculated
Hourly rate = basic salary ÷ monthly working hours. Example: 6,000 ÷ 208 = EGP 28.85. An employee 90 minutes late over the month with a multiplier of 1 loses 28.85 × 1.5 = EGP 43.27.
If your policy also deducts half a day for each late arrival from the fourth, someone late five times loses one full day (half a day × 2) on top of the minutes.
The legal cap on deductions (Labor Law 2025)
Deduction from basic pay is one of the disciplinary penalties in Article 139. Article 143 says a deduction for one violation may not exceed five days' wage and penalty deductions may not exceed five days' wage in a single month, so the calculator caps the total at five days.
Only one penalty may be imposed per violation (Article 140), so do not combine a deduction with another financial penalty for the same lateness.
Practical rules for a fair late policy
Write the policy into your penalty rules and share it, set any grace period, warn before you deduct, and record arrival times with a tool that cannot be edited after the fact so every deduction can be proven. The Dawmly attendance app saves the time and location of every punch.
