Annual leave under Egypt's 2025 labor law

Before 6 months of service: no annual leave yet. 6 to 12 months: a pro-rated share of 15 days. From the second year: 21 days. After 10 years of service or over age 50: 30 days. Employees with disabilities: 45 days.

Example: an employee hired 8 months ago is entitled to 15 × 8 ÷ 12 = 10 days.

Carry-over and settlement

Every employee must take at least 15 days a year, six of them consecutive, and the employer must settle the balance, or pay for it, at least every three years (Article 125). Keep a record of every day taken and every balance carried.

Frequently asked questions

How many annual leave days does Egypt's new labor law give?

15 days in the first year, 21 days from the second year, 30 days after 10 full years of service with one or more employers or over age 50, and 45 days for employees with disabilities (Article 124 of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025).

When does a new employee become entitled to annual leave?

After six months of service with the employer, pro-rated to the time served when service is under a year.

Does unused leave carry over?

The employer must settle the leave balance, or pay for it, at least every three years, and every employee must take at least 15 days a year, six of them consecutive (Article 125).

Does service with previous employers count toward the 30 days?

Yes. The law refers to ten full years of service with one or more employers, so the calculator lets you add years served elsewhere.
