Payroll from attendance: a month-end checklist
By Sayed Zakrea · 1 October 2026
To close payroll from attendance, work in this order: approve the month's attendance, resolve missing punches, check leave and absences, review overtime against your rules and the daily cap, confirm each employee's salary profile, generate payslips, and export for your accountant. Dawmly's payroll, on the Growth plan, calculates salary from approved attendance so you check results instead of re-keying hours.
The checklist
- Approve attendance. Payroll calculates from approved hours, so approve or correct each day first.
- Resolve missing punches. Look for a clock-in without a clock-out, and for offline punches that have not synced yet.
- Check leave and absences. Approved leave flows into payroll: paid leave is credited and unpaid leave becomes an absence deduction. Approve pending requests before you run payroll.
- Review overtime. Check day, night, rest-day and holiday hours against the multipliers you configured, and flag any day above 12 hours in total. See how overtime is calculated.
- Confirm salary profiles. Check basic salary, allowances and deductions for anyone whose terms changed this month.
- Run payroll. Dawmly calculates basic pay, allowances, deductions, overtime and absence deductions into gross and net pay.
- Issue payslips. Each employee gets an itemised payslip, so questions can be answered from the breakdown.
- Export and archive. Export payroll-ready CSV or Excel for your accountant and keep the attendance records behind each payment.
Keep the evidence
Overtime and absence disputes come down to evidence. Timestamped punches, approvals and leave records mean month-end is a calculation, not an argument.
